Paperbark Bondi
An iconic World War II traditional bungalow lined with Paperbark trees, the owners wanted to restore its original character and transform it into a spacious and warm, intimate and comfortable family home. While respecting and preserving the history of the building, and maintaining the status quo of the surrounding natural environment, the local volcanic rock was used to build the wall and a modern pavilion was created at the rear of the house to add the necessary functional space.
Barefoot House
The owners wanted a home that was functional, yet at the same time contemplative, with enough space for the growing family to actively interact and connect with the surrounding natural environment. The structure is arranged around three courtyards to ensure plenty of natural light and air. The use of natural materials, such as stone, concrete, clay and wood, better presents the inner beauty of the house.
Woollahra Terrace
Woollahra Terrace, a Victorian townhouse in Sydney's east with a 1970s concrete extension at the back, is low in height and dark inside. Since the house faced south and could not be demolished and rebuilt, Madeleine Blanchfield decided to use a large amount of glass to bring natural light into the main living space, while also building a private courtyard facing north on the basis of the existing condition.
