Workroom是澳大利亚一家专门从事商业零售、住宅和酒店的室内设计工作室。由设计师John Bornas和他的合作伙伴Jo-Anne Gleeson共同成立于1999年。他们每个项目的最终呈现，都体现了设计和工程、美学与功能之间的微妙平衡。

Workroom is an Australian interior design studio specialising in commercial retail, residential and hospitality. It was founded in 1999 by designer John Bornas and his partner Jo-Anne Gleeson. The final presentation of each of their projects reflects the delicate balance between design and engineering, aesthetics and function.

Border Street坐落于澳大利亚一处宁静的海滨，Workroom对地形、形式和材料的艺术构思，使其能够与周围的自然景观紧密联系。住宅采用开放式设计，以厨房为中心，配置了五间套房、单独的客房和保姆房、带海景日光浴室与有着健身设施的媒体室，以及可将拜伦湾美景尽收眼底的观景台。

Border Street is located on a tranquil waterfront in Australia, and Workroom's artistic conception of topography, form and materials allows it to connect with the surrounding natural landscape. The open-plan, kitchen-centric home features five suites, separate guest rooms and babysitting rooms, a solarium with sea views and a media room with fitness facilities, as well as an observation deck with panoramic views of Byron Bay.

海洋环境具有不可预测性，而Workroom的设计又力求与场地相融合，同时还要为人们创造一处舒适的庇护所，所以对他们而言，拜伦湾的气候对房屋的居住体验至关重要。从本质上而言，建筑内容纳了一系列特定的“亭子”，不设置走廊，让面积最大化，通过主要的空间连接起其他次要空间，同时它也是核心的聚会之地。

With the unpredictability of the Marine environment, Workroom's design sought to blend in with the site while also creating a comfortable shelter for people, for whom the climate of Byron Bay was crucial to the living experience of the house. In essence, the building accommodates a series of specific "pavilions" without corridors to maximize the area, connecting other secondary Spaces through the main space, which also serves as a central meeting place.

在Workroom看来，材料的表情能够调节人的情绪，他们希望将一些相互冲突的元素结合在一起，一方面考虑是，空间尽量的温暖、熟悉、有温润质感和舒适性；另一方面考虑则是日常的维护，这是一个需要慎重思考和研究的问题，因此材料必须选择耐用型，同时还要平衡它们之间关系并将其进行巧妙地结合。

In Workroom's view, the expression of materials can regulate people's emotions. They hope to combine some conflicting elements. On the one hand, the space should be as warm, familiar, warm and comfortable as possible. On the other hand, daily maintenance is considered, which is a problem that needs careful thinking and research, so the material must be selected as durable, while balancing the relationship between them and cleverly combining it.

岩板覆盖了整个建筑的内外，辅以黑桦木天花和局部洞石材料。即便是面对最恶劣的气候条件，外部的材质也能成为其坚固的屏障，而木材则有效地弱化了这种不透气性。同样，随着时间的推移，木材可以与房子共同成长、老化，为建筑本身增添了一层时间的魅力。

Rock slabs cover the entire interior and exterior of the building, complemented by black birch ceilings and local cave stone materials. Even in the harshest climate conditions, the external material can act as a solid barrier, and the wood effectively weakens this breathability. Similarly, the wood can grow and age with the house over time, adding a layer of age charm to the building itself.
